What I Like and Do Not Like About the Kindle 2.0

First, let's explain what Kindle 2.0 is all about. This is an e-book reader, meaning it's a device to read electronic books from. The screen is actually quite nice and very easy to read from. I tried reading side-by-side with the Kindle and a standard book and only notice little to no difference. So reading is very easy on the eye, with its non-reflective screen.

On the battery life, at full charge and with Whispernet's 3G wireless on, I manage to get 10 days of battery life on the Kindle 2.0, which was pretty amazing. Hats off to the engineers who put this together because it's fantastic.

Some of the issues that people had with the first Amazon Kindle was that the next page button was too large. So it's easy for someone to accidentally hit the next page button. This problem has been fixed in the Kindle 2.0. You can't accidentally click the next page button anymore because it's positioned in such a way now that you need to intentionally click inside the button to turn the page. Kindle 2.0 also now comes with a new 5-way navigational pad. You can scroll up, down, left, right, and push it in for the fifth button.

The screen is ample for comfortable reading, although the one complain I would have is the Kindle 2.0 not having touch screen capabilities. The full QWERTY keyboard takes up a lot of space. Although it's very helpful when you're searching for text, you spend most of your time reading and not searching. So, to be able to fully utilize the real estate on the Kindle device here would have been nice with the touch screen capabilities.

I wasn't too sure about getting a Kindle, feeling that they somehow undermined physical books, that they were too expensive, etc.  However, I decided to buy a Kindle based on the good reviews I'd heard, as well as having to move soon, and not having enough space for my books. I was sceptical, but once my Kindle arrived, I absolutely LOVED it! I can't believe I didn't buy a Kindle sooner. It's incredibly small and light-weight, and easy to hold.  The kindle store is incredibly accessible, and having your account automatically syncronised to it means you can start ordering as soon as you open the box (I must also add the packaging was very innovative- almost as exciting as the Kindle!).  There are some amazing deals to be had via the Kindle store- many of the great Classics you can easily pay £7.99 for are free(another reason to buy a Kindle) and many best sellers are much, much cheaper than if you'd bought a physical copy of the book. You can also make lists of books with certain features, allowing easy access.  I particularly like the note and highlight settings, making it easy to find and store memorable passages.  The Kindle Touch isn't perfect- other reviewers have mentioned the screen's "ghosting", which is a problem at first but you soon get used to it.  You also don't get a paper copy of the manual, only a digital edition.  This can be a pain, especially as it does take a while to get used to navigating around the kindle. However, these features are easy to overcome.  My only other quibble is that some books can be rather expensive (a digital edition of some modern classics is often only £2 cheaper than the paperback.) Try it- even if you only download Austen, Hardy and the likes, it'll easily pay for itself! Can't wait to take it on holiday with me. Delvery was fast, bought it for my wife, easy to use and connects to the internet although in black and white, can be used to surf the net which I did not realise, totally happy with the product, easy to work, purchase books, they could be cheaper downloaded as no paper used, or marketing, so come on lets reduce the price of online books????
