Cheaper Book :Kindle Touch, Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Touch Screen Display

Kindle e-reader

By Haitbois

I wasn't too sure about getting a Kindle, feeling that they somehow undermined physical books, that they were too expensive, etc.

 However, I decided to buy a Kindle based on the good reviews I'd heard, as well as having to move soon, and not having enough space for my books. I was sceptical, but once my Kindle arrived, I absolutely LOVED it! I can't believe I didn't buy a Kindle sooner. It's incredibly small and light-weight, and easy to hold.

The kindle store is incredibly accessible, and having your account automatically syncronised to it means you can start ordering as soon as you open the box (I must also add the packaging was very innovative- almost as exciting as the Kindle!).

There are some amazing deals to be had via the Kindle store- many of the great Classics you can easily pay £7.99 for are free(another reason to buy a Kindle) and many best sellers are much, much cheaper than if you'd bought a physical copy of the book. You can also make lists of books with certain features, allowing easy access.

I particularly like the note and highlight settings, making it easy to find and store memorable passages.

The Kindle Touch isn't perfect- other reviewers have mentioned the screen's "ghosting", which is a problem at first but you soon get used to it.

You also don't get a paper copy of the manual, only a digital edition.

This can be a pain, especially as it does take a while to get used to navigating around the kindle. However, these features are easy to overcome.

My only other quibble is that some books can be rather expensive (a digital edition of some modern classics is often only £2 cheaper than the paperback.) Try it- even if you only download Austen, Hardy and the likes, it'll easily pay for itself! Can't wait to take it on holiday with me.

Delvery was fast, bought it for my wife, easy to use and connects to the internet although in black and white, can be used to surf the net which I did not realise, totally happy with the product, easy to work, purchase books, they could be cheaper downloaded as no paper used, or marketing, so come on lets reduce the price of online books????

A couple of good, hard presses and your Kindle is safely housed -

At just over 56% of the cost of the Kindle, the cover is quite pricey... and I'm not entirely convinced it's worth it.

For your money you receive the neatest and best-fitting case/light combination available. The leather is smooth and well-stitched (for those of you who own Amazon Kindle Keyboard covers, the whole outside part of the new cover is now made from the same texture leather as the smooth section on the right-hand side of the front cover). The Kindle clips snugly and neatly into a hard rubbery tray-type slot which has sculpted edges to allow access to the page turn buttons, power switch and micro USB port.

A couple of good, hard presses and your Kindle is safely housed - and not coming out again in a hurry. The inset design is a really nice feature, making Amazon's the only case I've found that doesn't in some way obscure the front of the Kindle, whilst giving the best protection to the corners and sides that I've seen anywhere. The Kindle connects to the case via the two little square metal 'tabs' on its reverse side - these make contact with 2 small retracting prongs in the tray slot of the case. Very neat, and very easy to set up. The new, centered position of the reading light definitely feels less vulnerable than the pull-out style of the Kindle Keyboard covers.

One of the best features of the Amazon lighted leather cover is that it shares power with the Kindle, without causing too significant a drain on battery life (in my experience, less drain than having Wi-fi switched on). There's no need for heavy/cumbersome batteries that need replacing and add significantly to the bulk of the case - you just recharge your Kindle as/when needed.

The packaging the cover comes in is really minimal - a DVD/CD style envelope and the cover in a plastic bag inside. There were no instructions at all (and they're really not necessary), but also no sign of a warranty document: unusual for Amazon who include a 19-page brochure with even a basic camera lens-cleaning pen... though I'm confident that if anything goes wrong an email to Customer Services will work its usual magic.

So why not five stars for the neatest case + light solution around?

The case is very small, very light, very neat and extremely pocket-friendly. But what it's gained in functionality it has lost in quality. It doesn't feel anything like as robust as the Kindle Keyboard case. Although the felted lining is the same, there's no cushioning at all in the front cover and the spine is disappointingly floppy (there won't be anyone needing to ask if it can be bent back: it does this on its own). The reading light points directly down the page, creating a slightly shaded area in the upper corners of the screen and as it has no shielding at the top it shines into your eyes. Above all, though, I'm disconcerted by the lack of any form of closure. This doesn't inspire me with a great deal of confidence that things won't work their way between the cover and the Kindle screen when it's in my bag.

I loved the previous generation of covers, and expected to feel the same about this. Instead, it's a slightly damp and expensive squib that protects the Kindle in exemplary fashion at the back and sides but overall hasn't been as well thought-out as it could have been.

Make Your E-Reader Even More Useful With These Great Accessories

Marware Atlas Kindle and Kindle Touch Cover, Black Make Your E-Reader Even More Useful With These Great Accessories

By Chack Norrison

E-readers like the Amazon Kindle, the Sony PRS and the Irex iLiad have revolutionized the world of reading, allowing book lovers to carry their entire library of favorites with them no matter where they go. These lightweight and versatile e-readers are perfect for travelers, giving road warriors the chance to take their favorite books with them as they travel from place to place. But even though these readers are very versatile and easy to use they can be even more useful with the right accessories. Popular accessories like covers, reading lights, earphones and power adapters make these already versatile e-readers even more so.

Reading Lights
One of the best things about the Amazon  Kindle Touch Cove is the fact that its unique eInk technology does not use a backlight, and this allows the Kindle to read just like a physical book, even in bright sunlight. Unlike backlit devices that appear washed out in bright light, the Amazon Kindle allows readers to enjoy their favorite books even in full sunlight. That also means that readers who want to make the most of the Kindle in dim light should look at purchasing an add-on reading light. This is especially important for those who like to read in bed after their partners have gone to sleep and turned off the bedside lamp.

Amazon sells an excellent reading light for the Kindle, and all Kindle owners should look at this unique accessory. The reading light simply snaps on to the Kindle, making it easy to read in even the dimmest light.
The Sony PRS e-reader also comes with its own add-on book light, as does the e-Reader from Barnes and Noble and the iRex Iliad. When purchasing an e-reader buyers should look at the accessories that come with the unit, as well as any add-on accessories that can be attached later. Accessories like reading lights make these e-readers even more useful and powerful.

Earphones
Reading is by its very definition a quiet activity, and adding a pair of noise canceling earphones or headphones to your e-reader is the perfect way to create the calm and quiet environment you need to enjoy your electronic books. When looking for a set of e-reader headphones it is important to look at their noise canceling abilities, as well as their compatibility with the type pf e-reader you have. Each major brand of e-reader has its own set of earphones, and it is a good idea to purchase a set of earphones that has been specifically designed for your e-reader model.

Power Adapters
One of the most important things to look for in an e-reader is a long battery life. A good battery is especially critical for those who plan to take their e-readers on the road with them, but it is important no matter how you plan to use your electronic book.

Those who plan to use their e-readers extensively will also need to look at the possibility of purchasing an add-on power adapter for when the battery finally gives out. These power adapters can be used to recharge the battery and to provide power when the battery begins to run low. Amazon sells a number of excellent power adapters for the Kindle, including several models designed to provide flexible charging from both 110V and 220V outlets. These flexible power adapters are the perfect choice for frequent travelers.

Barnes and Noble's entry in the e-reader market, known as the Nook, comes with its own AC adapter, but it is also compatible with a number of universal adapters. Those who plan to use their e-readers on the road may want to look into the purchase of a universal charger and AC adapter for the Nook e-reader.

Owners of the Sony PRS e-reader may want to consider the rapid charging kit that includes not only a fast wall charger but a car charger as well. Many e-reader owners find themselves using their e-books in their vehicles, and the ability to easily and quickly charge the battery in the car can be a real convenience.

No matter what type of e-reader you choose it is important to look at the accessories that can make these powerful units even more useful. From power adapters to bedside reading lights, these special accessories can enhance the usefulness of these great innovations.

Kindle touch does its job

Kindle touch does its job.... well! 13 May 2012
By Yorkshire Chap
Increasing health problems have meant that reading and holding conventional printed books is now difficult most the time, and sometimes impossible. I was bought, as a gift, one of the newly released Kindle Touch (UK release April 2012)with the view that it might bring back the pleasure I used to have reading.

So far, after 2 weeks of use, there have been no problems with the device at all and its performance has exceeded expectations. Now, I must admit that this is my first experience of an e-reader device (I have not used any tablets yet, either) so I am in no position to compare with other similar technology. But, here is my take on the pro's and con's of the Kindle Touch (2012 vintage).

The set-up of the Kindle was fairly straight-forward - after reading the manual from cover to cover (I am one of those saddo's who download manuals on their laptop so they can swot-up before the device has even been delivered!). The setup of the Kindle account/ wireless connection/ e-book management system (called "Collections") is not too deep in the menu system as to be user unfriendly. Anybody who is a technophobe could get a techie friend set up in a few minutes - thereafter..... don't need to do anything more!

Things I like:
1.The device is easy to hold (about 330g with extra protective case; quite compact);
2. Screen very easy on the eyes, less fatiguing;
3. Font changeable and re-sizable;
4. Touch screen Navigation of books, mini-onscreen keyboard and menu system is surprisingly precise - even with nerve damaged, ill-coordinated digits!;
5. Able to carry around loads of books (and PDF/ Word DOC documents!) without knackering myself!
6. Easy to purchase books from Amazon.
7. The Daily Deal - books for 99p. Excellent!
8. Long charge-life of battery.

Things I Don't like:
1. The robot sounding text to speech facility;
2. The naff products that some publishers are putting out for Kindle - check the book & newspaper/ magazine reviews for KINDLE versions on Amazon before buying (if they offer a trial or sample to download - do that, before you part with hard earned cash!). eg some books etc are put out as Kindle versions, but do not have necessary pictures converted and included in the new version :o( BUYER BEWARE!!
3. Not able to use the Kindle with e-books from the electronic UK Library - the DRM protected E-PUB format that UK libraries use is not usable with Kindle devices.
4. Unable to bring onboard anyother formats of e-book other than the Kindle formats (MOBI; AZW; PRC) -Amazon, I suppose have to make a living. I normally buy my books via Amazon, but I would like the option. Not everything I would like is available in Kindle version.

Handy things to know:
1. Can convert E-PUB books (non-DRM protected) into Kindle format using free software (Google "Calibre").
2. Loads of free e-books available on Interweb (and indeed, to their credit, Amazon - look for "Free book collections" for out of copyright stuff).

Summary: For what I wanted, reading books with less physical effort, it does a stormingly good job. Just don't expect to play "Angry Birds" on it!
ps don't reply if you have found a way to do that - I'm not interested!!

Kindle Fire Screen Protectors - Find Out the Fashionable Kindle Cases And Covers

By Carl A Johnson

At present getting accessories for your mobile gadgets are common, specially the important protective gears just like Kindle Fire screen protectors, Kindle Fire cases and various kinds of pouches. Amazon's current release of the Kindle Fire is an impressive tablet that allows book lovers to have easy access to various reading materials. Users went so far as to refer to it as "revolutionary" highly praise indeed. Even better! This "easy-to-use, small-screen tablet" as well as reasonable cost is best technology innovation so far. Obviously, this very popular device gives added protection from the outside world. As pointed out above the two most vital must haves are Kindle Fire screen protectors and Kindle cases. Once you've got these two accessories you may readily use your Kindle Fire wherever you want.

The Kindle is a widely used e-book reader by Amazon. The Kindle goes with a basic cover to protect the device away from damage each time stowed in a purse or even briefcase. A cover may provide extra protection and even reflect the individuality of the user through a creative covering. The very first accessory most people acquire for their new Kindle is often a cover, case, skin and also sleeve. Regardless of which you consider really depends on your character and also needs. Kindles are really tough, the screen is made from durable glass that can survive knocks and even scratches perfectly. While the back of the Fire is made of a somewhat bendable rubber material that also withstands knocks. If you're bringing your Kindle outside the house it may be much better to buy a robust case or sleeve is probably the good choice.

The skins also called hard case features numerous style, designs and colours. The designs range from cute to fairly weird from plaid, pink and pretty, floral, wood effect, Temple of Doom, and matt black. Kindle Fire skins are a style statement yet they likewise serve a useful function. A Skin offers an inexpensive means by which to guard your device while additionally displaying a hint of your individuality. Skins can be bought for as much as half the price of the average leather cover, and merely a fraction of any designer cover.

Next is the Kindle Fire folio cover is a good case protector and as well as being an official accessory, it includes a foldable soft fabric lid to function as a viewing stand. The elastic strap available supports the cover in an open or closed position, and with reinforced corner protection the super thin and really light weight and it would not pressure your bags by any means. It also also comes in four colours, black, white, pink and also graphite. Now, you could also acquire a non-Kindle brand case for just a less expensive cost. Kindle cover is yet another neoprene cover from Gizmo Dorks. The sleeve has a plastic zipper to securely and safely close the tote. Soft yet dense and pliable neoprene cushions the Kindle from bumps, scratches and scrapes.
Remember to also get Kindle Fire screen protectors to safe guard your Kindle. The case, skin as well as sleeve can help prevent every damages to the body of your Kindle though it would not stop it from getting marked by a pen, your car keys or some other sharp personal things inside your handbag or computer bag.

Kindle Fire Screen Protector is a necessity for individuals who own a Kindle to protect it from damage, or breaks. Kindle Fire Screen Protectors are superb investment for making your Kindle Fire last much longer.

Kindle e-Reader with Wi-Fi, 6" Display

On the latest Kindle the screen remains unchanged and is excellent, most significantly in sunlight. The most striking difference is the size of the Kindle - significantly smaller than the keyboard version and now looking more like the Sony eReader range. I don't need a keyboard - although you have access to a virtual one on the Kindle screen but only can only slooooowly select keys using the 5-way control on the front of the Kindle. I much prefer this compact, very light, form. The finish is also better in my opinion. I prefer the silver casing to black, and certainly the white available in US earlier-generation Kindles. Another flagged improvement is the speed of `virtually' turning the page. There is a minimal improvement but it's still not possible to repeatedly press the next page button without the Kindle quickly falling behind.

Lower specs, excluding the keyboard which I think is a plus, is the anticipated time before the Kindle needs to be recharged - one month instead of two. One month is fine for me. The storage is also reduced but Amazon archives all your purchases in the Cloud so when you have Wi-Fi access you can download them just in case you're running out of storage space. As the Kindle will hold more than 1,000 books this is not likely to be an issue. Further, listening to music and audio books is no longer an option on the Kindle (which has no speaker) so the storage won't be clogged with large sound files. Storage space is not critical therefore. I also find that with Wi-Fi pretty ubiquitous these days that the loss of a 3G is fine. Where you're likely to struggle finding a Wi-Fi access point you're also likely not to be in a 3G area but can still rely on a slower GPRS or Edge mobile download. It is possible to connect the Kindle to a PC and move e-books to it via the USB cable so the Wi-Fi less have a work around (but you need Wi-Fi at least once to activate it on receipt).

Overall this is a refreshing update of the Kindle focussed on the key features of an e-reader - a good screen/size ratio, lightweight form, ease of downloading new books, and an excellent screen. And thanks to the focus on core features it's cheaper than earlier versions. Recommended.

Update: If you're considering investing in a new Kindle the Kindle Touch which, as the name suggests, comes with a touch screen might be worth a look. This adds the functionality of a touch screen, innovative searching of content in addition to a standard dictionary, more storage space and a longer battery life. It's currently £20 more than the standard Kindle and available late April 2012. Check out the Amazon Kindle comparison page.
